Project Description and Scope:

The VSE Career Centre is seeking students that are interested in researching and creating a peer coaching program to support BIE students with their introductory and ongoing professional and personal career skills and development.

Students would have the opportunity to

  • Conduct research online and connect with other peer coach programs both on and off campus across Canada to assist with benchmarking
  • Work collaboratively with other staff at the VSE Career Centre to understand the mapping of all current career services that are offered to BIE students; include a review of the Perspectives courses on Career Basics Group Coaching and Leadership Emotional Intelligence
  • Work collaboratively with the “Survey Team” to develop, deliver, and analyze a survey that assesses student needs and interests related to their career professional and personal development
  • Create a detailed plan that outlines the types of services that could be offered, potential ways to implement the program, a budget, and staffing requirements; this plan is expected to be in-line with the DEI and sustainability expectations of the Career Centre
  • Create a job description for Peer Coaches and lay out details of how peer coaches will be recruited, onboarded, trained and evaluated
  • Deliver a final report and presentation detailing this strategic plan
  • Communicate regularly with the Director and VSE Career Centre staff via email, in-person and by phone, in a professional manner
  • Attend weekly staff meetings to discuss updates and ongoing activities with the VSE Career Centre Director, Coordinator, and Project Manager
  • Communicate key learnings, takeaways, and insights through debriefs, summary reports, and weekly meetings

· You have an affinity for self-directed and collaborative project-based work

· You have basic office administrative skills and the ability to operate standard office equipment

Qualifications:

· Prior knowledge and experience in the mentoring/coaching field preferred

· Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

· Strong organizational and time-management skills, as well as an eagerness to learn

· Ability to deal with a diversity of internal stakeholders in a calm, courteous, and effective manner, utilizing strong business acumen

· Resourceful and able to research best practices in a variety of areas including benchmarking

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills in all forms (email, phone, online)

· Able to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity

· Equally at ease working independently and in a team environment

· Previous experience with Qualtrics, WordPress, and/or Canvas (asset)

· Previous experience conducting research and developing comprehensive research reports (asset)

· Must be able to work 10 hours per week for 8 weeks

Student will receive:

- Weekly oversight through prescheduled meetings

- Constant feedback on operations

- Recommendations and potential to return for other projects after completion
