Project Description and Scope
Introduction
The Career Centre is seeking students that are interested in helping to develop a series of long-term strategies to help systemically integrate inclusion into our operations and services. In particular, we want individuals to plan a weeklong series of events to explore and promote Diversity, Inclusion and Equity (DEI) in the BIE program for the classes of 2024 and 2025.
Students will have the opportunity to:
· Conceptualize data from DEI Long Term Growth Plan project (May-Jun 21’) and research from DEI Events and Strategy project (Mar-May 21’) on issues of inclusivity such as: ageism, LGBTQIA+ rights, mental and physical disabilities, racism, sexism, Truth and Reconciliation, and other forms of discrimination in the workplace and in today’s world
· Work with other students in the program to plan a one-week long event for the BIE Class of 2024 and 2025 unpacking issues of inclusivity such as: ageism, LGBTQIA+ rights, mental and physical disabilities, racism, sexism, Truth and Reconciliation, and other forms of discrimination in the workplace and in today’s world and connect students through a non-academic setting
· Contact and collaborate with other UBC groups and clubs that promote DEI
· Contact speakers and curate authentic programming to maximize student engagement
· Promote and market the event through BIE social channels to maximize attendance and student participation

· You are passionate about understanding and promoting DEI through active programming
· You are excited about engaging with other community members who are also passionate about DEI
· You have a pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit, and enjoy curating new projects
· You are excited about planning events that will impact your peers and community
· You have a passion for initiating and building strong relationships with diverse peers, colleagues, faculty and stakeholders
· You are sensitive to the current social and political environment surrounding DEI
Qualifications:
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Ability to consolidate and analyze data
· Self-motivated and driven with event planning experience
· Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of professionalism in communicating with speakers
· Experience working with Adobe InDesign
· Previous experience working with diversity, equity, and inclusion preferred
Student will receive:
- Weekly oversight through prescheduled meetings
- Constant feedback on operations
- Recommendations and potential to return for other projects after completion

The VSE Career Centre is a University of British Columbia (UBC) based centre, which takes a holistic approach as a career resource centre to support Bachelor of International Economics (BIE) students to think critically. Students are supported with their professional and personal development from self-discovery stage to by providing career coaching services and resources. Additionally, we work to build long-lasting relationships with employers, businesses and other key stakeholders to help BIE students become the top choice for recruiters in various industries.
