Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from the University of North Dakota to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Over the course of the semester, students will create a detailed evaluation plan for your program or initiative. **It is important to note that the students will not be conducting an evaluation of your program. Instead, they will be working with you to create a detailed evaluation plan, ready to be implemented by your organization.**

Students in this program/course study the concepts and practices used to analyze the effectiveness of public and nonprofit programs and enhance decision-making. Students will be introduced to the primary techniques in the field and develop theoretical and practical understanding of the benefits and trade-offs of each. Students will develop practical skills through the development of a detailed evaluation design and plan for implementation.

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.

Some final project deliverables might include:

  1. A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
  2. A detailed evaluation plan including their research, data collection methods and instruments, insights and recommendations

Project Examples

Requirements

Students in groups of 2-3 will work with your organization to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifying foundational program evaluation concepts and applying them to practice
  • Understanding the challenges, benefits, and limitations of different evaluative techniques for different contexts
  • Understanding and employing practical skills such as interviews and survey design to identify stakeholder needs and relevant program outcomes
  • Understanding and incorporating ethical principles into various stages of program evaluation
  • Effectively communicating an evaluation plan to a variety of stakeholders in written and oral form

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address students’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.

How is your project relevant to the course?

Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive formal or informal feedback.
